Terje Tønnesen - Music Director

Terje Tønnesen is among Norway’s leading violinists, and plays an important role in Nordic music life through his function as artistic director of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra (from 1977) and Camerata Nordica, Sweden (from 1997). He is also 1. concert master of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (from 1983). He is artistic director of Oslo Winter Night festival  and Baroque, a festival on Öland, Sweden.

Through the years he has had an international career as soloist and chamber musician and won several prices. Terje Tønnesen has done a number of recordings as soloist and chamber musician. He also performed and recorded several works commissioned for him. Terje Tønnesen has also composed music for a number of theatre productions.

His aim as an artist is to combine knowledge and development of tradition, but also to contradict it in order to create fresh products. He works with artist from different genres like jazz, rock, folk - and of course theatre.
